The hurricane I researched using the GIS system was Hurricane Ivan. This hurricane occurred for 22 days from 2nd of September, 2004 to the 24th of September, 2004. It first made landfall on southern Alabama and it was a category 3 hurricane. Ivan’s latitude and longitude was 87.8502 degrees North and 30.38749 degrees West. This hurricane went through and impacted Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland, Florida, and Texas. The buffer of Hurricane Ivan was 188.342 miles wide. Using GIS technology and spatial analysis has increased my knowledge of how much of a continent can be impacted by a hurricane and how far they can travel over a month long period. Sadly I have not been able to upload my picture of hurricane Ivan yet. I will update everyone as soon as I get some help.
